A little background on Preston:
On the north bank of the River Ribble, Preston district was given city status in 2002. Preston was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Prestune, meaning "farm of the priest" in Old English. A Grade 1 listed building, St Walburge's parish church, is one of the tallest buildings or structures in Lancashire. It is the third tallest spire in England after Salisbury and Norwich Cathedrals, at 94m (309 ft).
